The Brakenhale Eco Council

The Brakenhale Eco Council has been very busy throughout March. We have set up a waste plastic recycling system with bottle disposal sites located across the school. The Eco Council members have helped to process the waste plastic, removing and collecting the plastic caps, which we will be transforming into reusable plastic sheets for student projects using our amazing shredder and sheet forming machines, which were purchased at the end of last year.

At the end of each busy week, the Eco Council go out on litter picking patrol! As the Brakenhale Eco Coordinator, I will be promoting litter picking as a whole-school initiative and organising two litter picking patrols each week with a team of students from all year groups who volunteer to help keep or grounds litter-free!

So far, we have planted over 100 trees and hedging plants in a protected area of the school site. Again, the vision is that this area will be expanded to include fruit trees, a natural habitat and wildflower area, as well as an outdoor learning area for the coming summer months.

Eco Council meetings are held fortnightly.
