Brakenhale School

Combined Cadet Force

The ambition of Brakenhale’s Combined Cadet Force (CCF) is to promote the qualities of responsibility, self-reliance, resourcefulness and a sense of service to the community. We are a youth organisation within the school that works closely with the MoD and we align our values to those of the British Forces. We build self-disciplined individuals with self-courage and a sense of worth through our Army-themed activities.

Throughout the year activities include drill, skill at arms, shooting, field craft and first aid. We also focus on adventurous activities, like mountain biking, kayaking, rock climbing and many more. Cadets will also have the opportunity to get involved with volunteer and charitable work in the community and to gain nationally recognised qualifications such as the Duke of Edinburgh award and BTECs.

Joining the CCF(A) provides a wonderful and unique opportunity to take part in exciting Army-themed training activities and events, all of which focus on building the cadets; courage, self-discipline, respect for others, integrity, loyalty and commitment as well as developing effective communication skills, confidence, being part of a team with a winning spirit and a sense of pride and achievement. As a youth organisation, the CCF(A) strives to give cadets a fun, enjoyable experience in a totally safe environment. There is no commitment or expectation on cadets to join the regular Armed Forces when they have completed their schooling

Our parade nights are Tuesdays, 15:30 – 17:30. Some evenings we will be off site completing activities. We also have weekends away and our annual camp in July. Anyone can apply to be part of the CCF. Applications are open in June. If students are successful in the application process they will be called for an interview with one of our officers. There is a £45 subscription fee that covers insurance, activities and some of the kit required.

Students in Years 8 to 13 are eligible to join the CCF.  Year 7 will have their own afternoon towards the end of year 7, which gives them an introduction into the world of CCF.
