Sixth Form Update

This term often starts off as a challenge. With the coldest, darkest weather of the year and Christmas now behind us, many of us may feel the weight of the January blues. However, January also marks a time for fresh starts, where students can set new goals and plan for the future.

For Year 13 students, January is particularly exciting as they finalise their UCAS applications and begin attending apprenticeship interviews. It’s a pivotal moment filled with opportunities for growth and success. We’d like to give a special mention to the following students who have received offers from prestigious Russell Group universities. These globally renowned institutions are celebrated for their world-class research, exceptional teaching, and outstanding student experiences. This achievement reflects our students’ ambition and determination to always ‘aim high.’

  • Raul D – Law at Oxford, Queen Mary, and King’s College
  • Marine S – Veterinary Science at Cambridge and Royal Veterinary College
  • Bethia P – Occupational Therapy at Southampton
  • Freya G – Psychology at Southampton
  • Madison JM – English Literature and Philosophy at Southampton and Durham
  • Ashley W – Business Management at Manchester
  • Mya D – History at Southampton
  • Malachi S – Theatre and Mathematics at Bristol
  • Henry T – Architectural Engineering at Cardiff

Year 12 students will soon embark on their UCAS and apprenticeship journey. As highlighted earlier this year, the world is highly competitive, and it’s essential for students to pursue opportunities in a subject area that they are passionate about. Research shows that 4 or more employer interactions makes young people 5 times more employable. This is why we are encouraging Year 12s to participate in a virtual work experience. It will give them the opportunity to develop industry specific skills and engage with big name employers, therefore creating networking links. Some of the upcoming sessions take place over half term on the platforms below.

In order to keep our Post-16 students motivated amidst the pressures of planning their next steps, a motivational speaker was invited into the school to deliver an inspiring presentation. The central message focused on the importance of taking responsibility for their futures and understanding that they are in charge of their own destinies. The speaker emphasised that success is built on personal accountability, resilience, and a commitment to hard work. Students were encouraged to view challenges as opportunities for growth and to take proactive steps towards achieving their goals.
