Sixth Form Update

This term was a short term of just 22 school days so we challenged students to attend school for 22 days in a row in exchange for some fantastic group and individual rewards! Each week the tutor group with the highest attendance that week will receive breakfast treats after lineup on Friday. Here are some of our worthy winners last week 7N and 8R with Ms Emburey and Ms Qulikano looking very proud with their attendance crowns.
Each week Year 10 and 11 have been battling it out to be the highest attending year group in Key Stage 4. Year 10 were victorious winning slushies to celebrate the fantastic spring weather lately.
Below is Mrs Smith with her winning year 11 group in the first full week back after Easter. The full English breakfast wraps didn’t do so well with students but staff loved them!
Our mini bus has been out and about, making sure our Year 11 and Year 13 students arrive at school on time for their important exams.
This week, we teamed up with Sally Edwards from Edwards Data Solutions to develop a bespoke Power BI dashboard designed to support a critical, high-stakes project: getting students into the exam hall on time.
Using real-time attendance data, the dashboard highlights students who are absent without a provided reason and maps their home locations. This makes it much easier for staff to take swift, targeted action—like deploying school transport exactly where it’s needed.
What does the dashboard do?
- Identifies absent students
- Plots their home addresses on an interactive map
- Allows quick filtering by key groups, such as year groups
- Supports rapid, focused decisions—like dispatching transport to bring students in
But this isn’t just about dots on a map. It’s about:
- Minimising missed exams
- Making interventions faster and more effective
- Using data to remove barriers to student success
Huge credit to Sally Edwards and everyone at Brakenhale School for their strategic thinking and quick action. This is a fantastic example of using data not just to report the past, but to actively change what happens next.
