Sixth Form update

As we entered this half term, Sixth Formers were presented with the following quotation during their first summer term assembly – “Challenges are what make life interesting and overcoming them is what makes life meaningful.”

This thought has shaped our focus over recent weeks, encouraging students to reflect on the challenges they face and how these moments contribute to their growth and future success. Our Year 12 and Year 13 students are currently at very different points in their Sixth Form journey, but both are navigating significant milestones.

For Year 12, this is a time of exploration and decision-making as they consider their future pathways. A group of 13 students recently had the exciting opportunity to visit Brasenose College at Oxford University, offering them an invaluable insight into university life at one of the UK’s most prestigious institutions. The day included a guided tour of the college led by current Oxford students, an informative presentation by admissions tutors, lunch in the historic College Hall, and visits to several iconic locations across the university. It was an inspiring experience that broadened horizons and sparked ambitions.

Continuing our theme of aiming high and making the most of academic opportunities, we’re proud to share that several of our Year 12 students have been successful in securing places on the prestigious Eton College Summer University Preparation Courses.

These competitive courses, which run for three to five days, are designed to support students in preparing for university applications. Participants benefit from an exciting and intellectually stimulating programme that includes both general guidance on the application process and subject- specific sessions. Students also have the chance to collaborate and socialise with like-minded peers from across the country— an inspiring environment that encourages academic growth and personal development. Well done to these students for fully embracing our key value of aiming high. We are very proud of their drive, ambition, and commitment to making the most of opportunities.

Following valuable feedback from our year 12 students, we’re excited to introduce a new positive recognition system that highlights the right choices they make each day—especially the small, everyday actions that often go unnoticed. Students now have the opportunity to earn points when they meet key expectations, and these points can be exchanged for rewards.

How to Earn Points:

Students can earn up to 5 points per day (25 points per week) by:

  • ✅ Following PS rules and using free time productively – 1 point per session
  • 🧹 Keeping the PS room tidy such as putting away laptops
  • 🌅 Standing out in tutor time via active participation
  • ⏰ Being on time every day & not leaving early any day of the week – bonus 5 points

🎁 Rewards Menu:

  • 5 Points – Certificate & Positive Call Home
  • 10 Points – Highlighter
  • 15 Points – Notepad & Pen
  • 20 Points – Share-size Chocolate/Sweets
  • 50 Points – Leave at Lunchtime (if no Period 5 lesson)
  • 75 Points – Gold Pass Day (only need to attend scheduled lessons)

This system has been put in place to help keep students motivated by celebrating the small victories that build up to bigger successes. By acknowledging consistent, everyday efforts, we aim to show students that recognition is achievable and that positive habits are worth rewarding. It’s about reinforcing the idea that every step forward counts —and that effort, no matter how small, doesn't go unnoticed.

That said, the following year 12s have been awarded the ultimate reward - 🌟Gold passes🌟due to their consistent effort, dedication and academic excellence. These students have demonstrated outstanding time management and a strong commitment to meeting all academic expectations set by their teachers. As such, they have the privilege of having extra freedoms where they can leave site early when they do not have scheduled lessons. Congratulations to all Gold Pass recipients — your hard work has truly paid off!

Our Year 13 students have been working exceptionally hard as they tackle their A-level exams. Now halfway through the exam season, they have shown remarkable determination, resilience, and grit in the face of the pressures that come with this crucial time. We are incredibly proud of their efforts and the maturity they’ve displayed throughout. We’re confident that their hard work will be rewarded in August with an excellent set of results. Keep going, Year 13 — you’ve got this!

No matter where our students are on their journey, we are proud of the determination, resilience, and focus they continue to show in the face of challenge — embodying the very spirit of the quotation that inspired us at the start of this term.
