Creative Arts Highlights

As always, the Creative Arts department has been a hive of activity and creativity. Year 11 Art, 3D Design, Photography have completed their Externally Set Assignment projects and sat their 10 hour supervised time. Without any pause for breath, they then returned to their coursework submissions and completed those as well. Once marking and moderation has been completed, we will share some of the wonderful work they have produced.
Year 13 Art and Photography students completed their Externally Set Assignments as well, bringing all of their projects to a conclusion in a 15 hour supervised period of time. We are incredibly proud of the work they created and look forward to sharing with you later in the year.
Year 10 and 12 students are working well on their coursework projects across the department and starting to get prepared for their upcoming PPEs.
Food
We've had a fantastic start to our new Food Technology rotations, with students across all year groups developing new skills and confidence in the kitchen. Year 7s created their own colourful fruit salads, Year 8s cooked tasty chicken fajitas, and Year 9s took on the challenge of making homemade chicken nuggets, with some even attempting to make their own sauces to pair with them!
Year 10s have been working hard on their mini projects and are currently planning a savoury dish and a dessert to cook after the half-term break. I’m really looking forward to seeing their final outcomes and sharing their wonderful work!
Textiles
The Year 9 students who completed the last Textiles rotation created some amazing pieces inspired by artist Lucy Sparrow!
They use hand stitching techniques and applique' to design and make some of their favourite food as soft textile sculptures.
Eco Council
With the help of the Brakenhale Eco Council team members, our very own woodland area is making a promising start, with the saplings budding, developing leaves and all helped along by some welcome doses of sunshine in recent days!
