CCF Fieldcraft Weekend
Saturday 26th to Sunday 27th April:
The volunteers were onsite from 8am setting up for the existing and new cadets’ arrival at 10am. Once uniform, kit and bergens were issued - wonderfully supported by the established cadets: straightening collars, lacing boots - the new cadets got straight in with all of the basic fieldcraft syllabus which included cooking in the field, basha building to sleep under, self care out in the field (washing / keeping clean), learning how to iron their uniform and polish boots.
Older cadets did skill at arms on the cadet GP rifle to pass their weapon handling test so that they are now approved to fire blank and live ammunition when we go on annual camp.
All cadets then slept the night on the field in sleeping bags, bivvy sacks and a basha. One new recruit said it was the best night’s sleep they ever had! Thank you to Mr Helyer our Site Manager for having his own camp out in his office to allow his event to go ahead.
