PE Update

So it’s been busy in PE with the football season in full swing! Along with still strong extra curricular clubs ranging from regular Basketball with Reading Rockets, we have a new Badminton club as well as favourites of trampolining and football! Clubs have been impacted slightly with loss of the use of the Sports hall during PPE season but please still do come down to PE after school as there is something on every day!
Get an extra hour fix of physical activity, be it practice, something from lessons or trying something new!
Fixtures this term have been dominated by the football season! Despite this, there have still been some County Cup games against a range of schools near and far across the county. Our progress in the cups has been slowed, but we’ve seen some great effort on show.
Year 7 Girls have been very successful so far, reaching the County Cup Semi-Final!
Girls’ Football
- Year 7 Girls: Have played league games against Forest and Maiden Erlegh, as well as their amazing success vs Piggott away, where they won their quarter-final 3-0. They now go on to play Forest in the Semi-Final.
- Year 9 Girls: Were not to be outdone! They have played Kings Binfield and Trinity, sadly not achieving the win, but showing great all-around effort and commitment. The girls can be really proud of their performances.
Boys’ Football
- Year 11 Boys: Got their first taste of action with a hard-fought 2-0 loss to Kings Binfield. They will be back in action after PPEs in the County Cup, away to Furze Platt and at home vs Embrook School.
- Year 10 Boys: Get their league campaign up and running in the week beginning 3rd March vs arch-rivals Edgbarrow, followed by a series of league games.
- Year 9 Boys: Their third round was a bridge too far, as they lost to a strong Trinity team. Despite the result, the boys gave everything in each of their games and can hold their heads high.
- Year 8 Boys: Opened their league campaign in the week beginning 3rd March. Good luck to them!
- Year 7 Boys: Have continued to be in action, with a County Cup loss to Forest and league fixtures against Kings EP and Kings Binfield. Despite the results not being in their favour, they gave everything for the school and can be proud.
It’s not just football! We’ve had students out representing us in Indoor Athletics, where Year 7 and 8 boys and girls competed in an obstacle race, individual sprints, and field events at Bracknell Sports Centre.
Year 10 Sports Leaders: Have had a busy month, delivering an amazing set of indoor events at the end of January and the beginning of February. They not only ran the Year 5 and 6 Finals, but also the Secondary Year 7 and 8 Finals, as well as the Year 3 and 4 Finals! They’ve shown great enthusiasm and leadership throughout.
So, as you can see, it’s been an action-packed month in PE with more to come as we head towards Easter. There will be more football, including the Greenshaw Learning Trust tournament for Year 7/8/9 Boys at Blaise High School in Bristol at the end of March!
