Year 7 School Trip to Oakwood Climbing Centre

A Day of Fun and Team Building

This term, the Year 7 students embarked on an exciting adventure at Oakwood Climbing Centre, taking it in turns with their respective tutor groups to have a whole day enjoying the adventures the centre had to offer. They participated in a range of thrilling activities, including bouldering, archery, crate stacking, and low ropes. It was a day filled with fun, challenge, and teamwork, offering students not just an opportunity to engage in physical activities, but also to build bonds with their fellow classmates while learning valuable life skills whilst participating in the following activities.

Bouldering: Reaching New Heights

Bouldering is a rock climbing activity that challenges participants to scale walls of varying difficulty without the use of ropes. Students quickly discovered the importance of focus, determination, and technique as they tackled the different climbing routes. Each wall presented a new challenge, and many students pushed themselves to reach the top, encouraged by their friends cheering them on. It was a perfect opportunity for them to face personal challenges head-on and show resilience when trying something new and exciting.

Archery: Aiming for Accuracy

Aimed at honing their concentration, students had to carefully draw their bows and release the arrows with steady hands. While some were naturally skilled, others had to work hard to improve their aim, learning the value of perseverance and steady practice. As each student got better, they celebrated their success together, creating an atmosphere of mutual support.

Crate Stacking: Working Together

Crate stacking is an activity that truly embodies everything about teamwork. The goal was simple: stack crates as high as possible while balancing atop the growing tower. But, as you can imagine, balancing on top of a precarious stack of crates required careful planning, trust, and collaboration. The students quickly realised that in order to succeed, they needed to rely on one another. Whether it was holding crates steady, offering encouragement, or suggesting strategies, everyone played a vital role in the success of the team. It was a clear example of how teamwork can help overcome challenges and achieve great things.

Low Ropes: Navigating Challenges Together

Finally, the low ropes course put the students’ teamwork and problem-solving skills to the test. The course involved a series of physical challenges where students had to work together to move from one platform to another without falling off or touching the ground. The low ropes required both physical strength and mental agility, as the students had to communicate effectively and plan their moves carefully. Every obstacle was an opportunity to support one another, and the students quickly realised that success depended on trust, communication, and collaboration.

A Day to Remember

The trips to The Oakwood Climbing Centre were memorable days for all the Year 7 students. It wasn’t just about having fun (though there was plenty of that!) It was about overcoming challenges, and supporting each other every step of the way.

The trip was a true testament to the power of teamwork and collaboration. The Year 7 students demonstrated that by working together, they could achieve things they may have thought were impossible. It was an experience that will surely inspire them throughout the rest of their school year and beyond, proving that with a little effort and a lot of support from friends, they can achieve anything.

As a year team we are incredibly proud of the students. They absolutely embodied our school ethos of Aiming High, Being Kind and Taking Responsibility. The Oakwood trip will undoubtedly be remembered as one of the highlights of their Year 7 journey, reminding them all that teamwork, perseverance, and fun go hand in hand!
