Dance News

Students from Year 9, 13 and a selection of Year 8 boys took part in a dance workshop with Luke Brown of Luke Brown Dance Company. The professional choreographer was really impressed by the level of the Year 9 students skills and how they pushed themselves. He was really impressed by the energy of the Year 8 boys and how talented they were.

Miss Haley said all students involved were fantastic and a real credit to the school. She was really impressed with how mature and focused the groups were; she is very excited to teach the Year 9 students for GCSE next year and to have such interest in the boys workshop. As there wasn’t enough space in the workshop to accommodate all students anyone who didn’t get to participate this time will be able to for the next workshop.

Parliament Trip 29/01/2016

Parliement picture

On the 29th January 59 students and 6 staff from all three key stages traveled to the Houses of Parliament. Students were given the opportunity if they had been elected Tutor Representatives. Whilst at the Palace of Westminster, students were guided around the building and told about its history and importance within British life.
We were particularly lucky to see the Mp’s debate in the Chamber of the House of Commons and even more privileged to step in to the Chamber of the House of Lords. Despite the temptation to sit on the Queens throne the students resisted and were extremely well behaved. The parliament education officer commented that our students were amongst the best behaved that they had ever taken on tour. Considering that nearly 75,000 young people tour per year this was wonderful to hear.
After the tour students then undertook an interesting workshop on elections and voting which was targeted at their key stage. The tutor representatives will be taking that knowledge and using it to discuss elections and the importance of voting in tutorial.
The Staff and students enjoyed the visit even if the traffic on the way back delayed the return to school.
We hope to offer the opportunity to more students in the coming months as part of pastoral programme.

“The tour guide and the education centre instructor both told us afterwards that they were one of the best groups they had worked with. We are very proud of them. Please feed back to the students and the tutors. It was a pleasure to go on the trip with them.”
