Dear Parent/Carer

On Thursday 14th January we organised a Year 9 Options Evening and the feedback we have already received from both staff and parents was how amazing and successful it was.

Thank you to all parents who attended and all our staff who worked hard to make the evening a success.

Yours sincerely

important info

Dear Parent/Carer

It has come to our attention that an incident has recently occurred involving a student at The Pines School. Thames Valley Police have issued the following statement:.

‘Thames Valley Police were called shortly after midday to The Pines School in Bracknell to a report that a man had spoken to a child through a fence. The child then ran away to speak to a teacher. Officers attended to speak to the child about what happened and searched the area but no one was found. Reassurance patrols will be conducted around the particular school and vicinity. TVP and Bracknell Forest Council urge parents to remain calm, to try and refrain from speculation and if you do see anything suspicious then please contact us on 101.’

Could we please remind all our parents and students to remain extra vigilant at this time.

Yours sincerely
Jane Coley
Headteacher

Duke of Edinburgh Award update

Huge thank you to the members of staff that have signed up to help deliver DofE this year. They completed another training session themselves Tuesday night. We wouldn’t be able to have so many students doing the award this year without their hard work and commitment.

An email has gone out to all students and parents of Year 10 participants with the dates and details of training sessions and expeditions. Please make a note of these.

Interest in DofE has soared this year and the number of students completing the award this year is more than double what it was last year. We also have exciting plans and challenges in store to celebrate DofE’s 60 years this year.

Thank you to all parents for their support and students for their already excellent attitude to completing the award.

Holyport College trip

On Saturday 9th January, four high achieving Year 9 students (Jade, Toby, Yousuf, James) were taken to Holyport College to take part in the first of six Maths masterclasses run by the Royal Institution. Students attended from some of the highest achieving schools in Berkshire. These sessions are run weekly and speakers visit each week. At this session, three engineers who work for the Atomic Weapons Establishment (AWE), delivered a fantastic session where they got students to investigate high level probability, A – level topics to prove mathematical theories and the mathematics behind rubik’s cubes. This is one of several opportunities of this nature we will be offering this year.

Parents’ Drop in Session

There is a Drop-In session in the LRC for all parents every Thursday between 4.00pm and 5.00pm. During this session staff are available to answer questions regarding ShowMyHomework, Insight, ParentPay, as well as the biometric identification system. Parents are able to log on to the computers in the LRC to access their ShowMyHomework, Insight and ParentPay accounts. If you would like to pop by to see us please come in to school via the Coningsby gate and walk across the courtyard to the LRC.
