Headteacher’s Report

8th December 2015

As we near the end of the Autumn term I wanted to take the opportunity to write to everyone to say thank you very much for your help and support this year. Your feedback is invaluable in helping me to make continual improvements, for example the very constructive comments regarding the AP reports have resulted in a much more effective and detailed report going out, so thank you!

It has been an extremely busy term and the feedback from the Heads of Year further on in this newsletter outlines all of the exciting things that our students have been doing. On top of this the school continues to move forward at a rapid pace with a significant number of students joining us since September.

The year started with the school open evening and tours. I felt genuinely proud as I showed round over 500 parents across four weeks. The atmosphere around the school continues to model both high expectations and challenge and the feedback from parents was extremely positive with comments such as fantastic, excellent, improved, loved what we saw. The feedback we continue to receive from the community, parents and governors is on the whole overwhelmingly positive with a local estate agent reporting this week that they ‘are now using Brakenhale as a selling point for homes in the local area’. The national BTEC team who came in last week to work with all our Head of Departments reported that ‘they were extremely impressed by the professionalism, enthusiasm and energy of your Subject Leaders – without exception, all were totally committed to bringing about improvement /raising standards in their subject and moreover, all your colleagues were totally “learner – centric” – thank you for an excellent day.’ Furthermore, when the Bracknell Forest Homes team along with Learning to Work came in and ran a day with all of our Year 7’s whom they praised very highly, they noted the ‘palpable difference’ in the focus and positive energy around the school.

I would also like to thank you all for your support in ensuring that students continue to uphold our very high standards of uniform, behaviour and punctuality. Regarding uniform, the students overall continue to look extremely smart and represent the school so well. If there are any issues with uniform that have been highlighted this half term please ensure that these are rectified across the holiday. It is extremely important to myself and staff that students continue to model our high expectations.
