As parents and carers you should be aware that at some stage in the future we will be using drug detection dogs on the school site. This follows unanimous backing from the governing body at the recent Full Governing Body meeting on November 10th 2015. The Brakenhale School operates a zero tolerance policy to drugs on the school site and the use of dogs underlines a clear message that drugs on the school site are not acceptable. The consequences of drugs upon a young person and their well- being and academic accomplishments are profound.
All of the students have had recent assemblies with the Headteacher regarding the use of dogs and the school’s attitude to drugs and drug paraphernalia on the school site. The dog will make its patrol during break and lunchtimes on the day of the visit and pupils will be expected to stand still when the dog is in the vicinity. We will also continue with our ongoing programme of drug education so that the pupils may understand the risks of taking drugs. The Brakenhale School is committed to keeping the school site as a safe place to study and develop and therefore any student found in possession of drugs or using drugs on the school site faces permanent exclusion.
Year 11 Parents Evening on 23/11/2015
Parents’ Evening for students in Year 11, which will be held between 4.00pm and 7.00pm in the school. This is an opportunity for you to meet your child’s teachers, discuss their school progress report and review progress towards student targets.
The House captains had a great morning with Toby Garbett on Thursday 19th November 2015, our GB Olympian & Athlete mentor worked on their plans to increase our participation in house sporting competitions at The Brakenhale School. The groups worked on a schedule for the next two terms and brainstormed ideas to maximise student uptake.
The captains will be meeting early next week to finalise their plans and will be seen in assemblies and tutor groups before the end of term promoting their events.
Well done to all of the students and thank you to our mentor, Toby Garbett for an inspirational morning.
