Dear Parents / Carers
I am writing to alert you to several up and coming events at our school, which I very much hope you will be able to attend.
The first event is the Brakenhale Year 6 Info Evening which is aimed at parents and carers. The purpose of the evening is for you to meet myself and the senior leadership and to be given some brief information about our pastoral system and how we support students with different individual needs. This will be held in our school hall on Tuesday 29th September from 6.30pm to 7.30pm.
On Thursday 15th October we have our Open Evening, which is aimed at both parents and carers and their children. This is a great opportunity to look round the school, meet our teachers and see the work of the students. There will be a variety of displays and activities for your child to get involved in. All our teachers will be present and many students will be there too so it will be a good opportunity to talk informally about your child and raise any questions you may have. The evening starts at 6.00pm and will finish with a talk by myself in the main hall at 8.00pm.
We will be running tours of the school both in the week running up to Open Evening and the week after. These will be between 9.15am and 10.45am* on the following dates:
- Monday 12th October
- Tuesday 13th October
- Wednesday 14th October
- Monday 19th October
- Tuesday 20th October
- Wednesday 21st October* [Tour between 2.00pm and 3.15pm]
- Thursday 22nd October
- Friday 23rd October
Additionally, on Tuesday 20th October between 6.30pm and 7.30pm one of our Assistant Headteachers will be giving a talk on ‘Growth Mindsets: How to help your child learn.’ This talk aims to cover practical suggestions about how to help your child learn by developing a positive attitude towards focussed effort. The philosophy behind this approach stems from the work of Harvard psychologist Carol Dweck and golf coach Carl Morris. To book your place on a tour, please telephone the school on 01344 423041 and let us know your preferred date.
I am fully committed to providing as many opportunities as possible for prospective parents and carers to come and experience and hear about the exciting learning environment we are creating at Brakenhale, fully focused on ‘High Expectations and Challenge for All’, and I very much look forward to meeting you all.
Jane Coley, Headteacher
