A very warm welcome back to you all.
New SLT Team
Deputy Headteacher – Mr P Gibson
As Deputy Headteacher here at The Brakenhale School, I am thrilled to be part of it’s rapid improvement and I am already enjoying the interactions with a wonderful bunch of young people. I have oversight of the curriculum, KS4 standards and the It strategy as well as helping Mr Beukes with the running of year 11. I truly believe that this school is on course to become one of the best in the area and I will endeavor to ensure all students achieve their true potential.
Deputy Headteacher – Mr A Hartley
My main duties as Deputy Headteacher are to have overview of the Pastoral system and Key Stage 5 here at Brakenhale. I am also working with Mr Swynford-Lain – supporting Year 8. I am delighted to be a part of a new and exciting senior leadership team and it exciting to see the potential of so many of the students being unlocked over recent weeks. The future for Brakenhale School is very exciting!
Assistant Headteacher – Mrs G Powell
I will be overseeing the Careers Education program and Enrichment activities for our students as well as guiding staff through continual professional development opportunities and improving learning and teaching in the classroom. I will also be working with Mr Benson and the Year 9 pupils through this important year of options and choices. Taking the post of Assistant Headteacher at The Brakenhale School is already proving to be an exciting and rewarding challenge; the school, the staff and our students have achieved great things recently and I am delighted working among them as we move forward.
Assistant Headteacher – Miss L Baveystock
My name is Lisa Baveystock and I’m the one of three assistant headteachers. I’ve been teaching for over 30 years, the past 17 of which have been teaching at Edgbarrow. So moving to Brakenhale I was ready to face new challenges and change of responsibilities. I oversee the Year 7 students and have responsibility for primary/secondary transition. I also support newly qualified and trainee teachers. I care passionately about teaching and as a person who also lives in the local area, feel I have a vested in interest in developing the quality of education at The Brakenhale.
Assistant Headteather – Mr H Thomas
I have been at Brakenhale for a little while now, I worked as Head of the ICT and Business department before becoming a member of the SLT team. I am overseeing data, timetabling, exams and working with Miss Douse with year 10. I really enjoy working with the students here and I am thrilled with the improvements we have seen recently and feel the school is now going from strength to strength
Year 13 Next Steps Evening
On Wednesday 16th September parents of Year 13 students gathered in the new common room to hear talks about future choices for their children’s future. Mr Dale spoke about the possibilities of apprenticeships and the requirements needed to access these opportunities. He also spoke to students about some of the key dates for the UCAS process and the structure of the application system. Mr Hartley then spoke about the requirements for a strong personal statement and the levels of preparation and endeavor needed to ensure this is to the correct standard. Mr Dale then finished the evening with some key points regarding student finance and applying for loans. The presentation will be e-mailed home for anyone who could not attend the event.
School Governor’s Vacancies
‘We have some vacancies on our school’s governing body, after three very long-standing governors left at the end of the term. We particularly need people who have skills in finance or PR (or are prepared to train to gain these skills) and, if possible to have good knowledge of the local business community. In addition, later this month there will be an opportunity for a parent to become a parent-governor with us.
If you, or anyone you know might be interested in finding out more about governance, please contact our clerk at firstname.lastname@example.org
