Welcome back 03/09/15

Dear Parent/Carer

A very warm welcome back to you all.  I am extremely excited about the forthcoming year for a number of reasons.

We are fortunate to be joined by 16 new staff, many of whom provided outstanding teaching at high performing schools.  My new Senior Leadership Team have spent significant time across the holidays preparing for their new roles and already are very effectively supporting staff and students.  Our results this year were extremely encouraging with 52% of our Year 11 students gaining 5 A*-C including English and Math,s a 9% rise on the previous year and the highest that the school has ever achieved.  Furthermore, this is the greatest level of progress for any school in Bracknell Forest.

I firmly believe that one of the reasons for this increase is the new agenda of high expectations and challenge.  Students now know that if they don’t conform to our very high standards there will be consequences and this has led to a much improved focus in the classroom on learning.  I very much appreciate your patience with the changes that have been made to uniform and I am very aware that some people have experienced problems in ordering the correct school skirt.  I hope to have this resolved in the next couple of days and please be assured no student will be penalised if their skirt has not arrived.  Can I also remind you that all students in all year groups are required to have a Brakenhale school bag which can be purchased directly from the school or through the school uniform shop.  Please be aware those in the uniform shop are slightly larger and therefore more expensive.

Please find here all this half term’s actions for the School Improvement Plan.  Please can I encourage all parents to read this document carefully and to get in touch with me regarding any feedback in any of these areas.

I am looking forward to working with you and your families across the next academic year in ensuring that all young people at The Brakenhale School are supported in achieving their potential.

Yours faithfully
