New Behaviour for Learning Code 03/09/15

Dear Parents and Carers,

I am writing to you with regard to the school’s new Behaviour for Learning Code. this document, working alongside our uniform and mobile phone policy is meant to provide the students with a clear structure on expectations of their conduct during school hours. These documents were constructed by a team of senior staff last term and have endeavoured to give students complete clarity about what can happen if they misbehave or fail to follow school policy.  I would like to encourage you to read through these documents and I hope you feel it provides a structured and logical set of sanctions for any student misdemeanours. It also gives the pupils a chance to reflect and change their behaviour before any sanctions like detentions are brought in; I believe this is all important for young people who are still developing as individuals. The pupils have been taken through these documents during their first morning back in school alongside reminders of the mobile phone and uniform policies.

As I am new to my post of Deputy Head in charge of Pastoral one of my first jobs was to look at the ‘Behaviour Logs’ for the previous term. It is clear that serious incidents of poor behaviour were being challenged and were subsequently in decline. It is very important that as a school community- pupils, teachers and parents – we all work together to ensure this continues. A productive, orderly atmosphere at school is vital for the pupils to make academic progress and in turn get the qualifications that will enable them to have choices about their next steps in life. It is clear to me that Brakenhale is a school on an upward trajectory and by using this Behaviour for Learning Code as consistently as possible throughout the upcoming school year it can be another factor to help the school move forward even further.

Thank you for your support on this matter.

Yours faithfully

Andrew Hartley
Deputy Headteacher
